Two named to USCHO All-Rookie Team
WINTHROP, Mass. – Alexis Petford, a forward from Stonehill College and Jill Hertl, a goaltender from Franklin Pierce University, were named to the USCHO All-Rookie Team on Friday.
WINTHROP, Mass. – Alexis Petford, a forward from Stonehill College and Jill Hertl, a goaltender from Franklin Pierce University, were named to the USCHO All-Rookie Team on Friday. The two first-year performers were honored as part of the organization’s All-USCHO team announcement.

The NEWHA Rookie of the Year, Petford finished the season ranked third in the nation in goal scoring (28) while leading the nation in first-year scoring. Winning five NEWHA weekly awards in 2022-23, Petford’s 0.76 goals per game ranked second among National Collegiate student-athletes – she added six power play goals on the season as well.
Among rookie netminders, Hertl led the nation in goals-against average (1.81), save percentage (0.934) and winning percentage (0.569). Played in 25 games for the Ravens, she posted a 13-9-3 overall record and threw up six shutouts to rank ninth in the nation. She also won a total of seven NEWHA weekly awards.
Last season, Jeannie Wallner (LIU) was the first NEWHA selection to the national All-Rookie Team.
The 2022-23 campaign was the first for the NEWHA with an automatic bid to the National Championship. The league will welcome Assumption University to the fold in 2023-24 as its eighth member.
