NEWHA Weekly Awards: Week 3
Player of the Week
Kayla McGaffigan, Assumption University
The junior recorded her second-career multi-goal game on Friday evening, as she scored both goals in the Greyhounds' 2-0 win at Post. She capped off the weekend by adding an assist and scoring in the shootout on Saturday to help secure the extra point. The South Dennis, Mass. native tallied six shots over the weekend for Assumption.
Defensive Player of the Week
Maddie Quinn, Saint Michael's College
The junior defender scored the game-winning goal on Saturday to assist Saint Michael's in its victory over the defending NEWHA regular-season champion Sharks. She aided a Purple Knight defense that only allowed two goals over the weekend. Additionally, the Chicago, Ill. native posted 12 blocked shots and a +2 rating.
Goaltender of the Week
Annika Lavender, Saint Michael's College
The senior netminder helped the Purple Knights toward earning four points over the weekend with a .980 save percentage and an average of 48.5 saves per game. The Purple Knights picked up a victory on Saturday against the defending NEWHA regular-season champion, LIU. The Plymouth, Minn. native recorded a 0.97 goals against average, keeping the Sharks from scoring during five LIU power plays.
Rookie of the Week
Kayla Czukoski, Saint Anselm College
The freshman recorded 89 saves on 93 shots faced during the Hawks' weekend campaign in Friday's non-conference loss to the University of Maine and Saturday's NEWHA win over the Stonehill Skyhawks. She posted a .957 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average in the 1-1 (1-0 NEWHA) week for the Hawks. The Exton, Pa. native leads the league in saves with 205 total through five games played.
