NEWHA Weekly Awards: Week 16
Defensive Player of the Week
Bria Holm, Sacred Heart University
The junior forward played a key role in the Pioneers' offensive success during their weekend sweep of Saint Anselm, as she posted five points in two games. She recorded a hat trick in Friday's 5-2 victory, which included a power play goal and the game-winning tally. In Saturday's 3-1 win, she added two assists and a plus-three on-ice rating. The Moorhead, Minn. native tallied nine shots and was a plus-four on the weekend. Holm's offensive contributions helped the Pioneers to their 2-0-0 weekend against the league-leading Hawks.
Defensive Player of the Week
The junior defender was a major contributor for the Eagles on both ends of the ice this weekend against Saint Michael's. She tallied two goals and three assists for a total of five points over the two games. She netted the game-winning goal in Friday night's 2-1 victory before adding another goal and two assists on Saturday, helping the Eagles secure the weekend sweep. She recorded ten shots over the two games and ended the weekend with a plus-two on-ice rating.
Goaltender of the Week
Jillian Petruno, Sacred Heart University
The senior goaltender anchored the Pioneers to back-to-back wins over Saint Anselm this weekend. She logged the full 60 minutes in both contests. She stopped 66 out of 69 shots faced over the two games, posting a .957 save percentage with a 1.50 goals against average. She currently sits in second among NEWHA goaltenders in both stat categories. She turned aside 35 shots in a 5-2 victory on Friday before following up with a 31-save effort in Saturday's 3-1 win.
Rookie of the Week
Payton Palsa, Stonehill College
The freshman forward turned in a standout weekend performance against conference opponent, LIU. She dominated at the faceoff dot, winning 76 percent of her draws (19-25). She also contributed to the Skyhawks' Saturday afternoon win by scoring the game-winning goal, also her second career goal. Her goal marked her second game-winning tally in the last four games. She finished the game with a plus-two on-ice rating, going plus-one in each game. The Annapolis, Md. native also added five shots on the weekend for the Skyhawks.
